The triad of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei had significant strategic importance for every ambitious ruler who craved the vast territory of the Central Plain. Today lots of monumental structures still stand in this region - religious sanctuaries, military defense works, and secular residences – all evoking memories of wars, conquest, piety, and the lives and deaths of the rulers of imperial China.
